Russia Issues Assassination Threat Against EU President von der Leyen, Labeling Her ‘Teh New Hitler’
Brussels, Belgium - A prominent Russian state media personality has called for the assassination of European Commission President Ursula von der leyen and Estonian Prime Minister kaja Kallas, escalating tensions amid a dispute over frozen Russian assets. Vladimir Solovyov, a key voice for the Kremlin, issued the chilling threat on his radio show, “Full Contact,” accusing the leaders of “stealing” Russian funds.
Solovyov specifically targeted von der Leyen, stating, “An old thieving woman, Ursula von der Leyen, is trying to steal our assets. The very idea that a person, whose authority doesn’t even remotely include this, is making these decisions and all Europe says okay shows that we have a new Hitler.” He further urged Russia to pursue anyone connected to the EU as “terrorists,” stating, “If we find them in the outhouse, we’ll whack them there.”
The threats come in response to a recently proposed EU plan to mobilize approximately £80 billion to support Ukraine by seizing or borrowing against the £180 billion in Russian state and private assets currently frozen in European banks and clearing houses. The plan, spearheaded by von der Leyen, aims to cover two-thirds of Ukraine’s funding needs through 2027.
“We are proposing to cover two-thirds of Ukraine’s financing needs for the next two years. That’s €90 billion. Since pressure is the only language the Kremlin responds to, we can also dial it up,” von der Leyen stated.
The largest portion of the frozen assets, roughly £160 billion, is held in Euroclear, a clearing house based in Belgium.Though, the Belgian government has expressed reservations about the plan, fearing potential legal liability for the full amount if the assets are transferred to Ukraine.
Solovyov also called for the EU to be designated a terrorist association and all relations severed. The Kremlin has not officially commented on Solovyov’s remarks, but his broadcasts are widely seen as reflecting official Russian sentiment. This latest escalation marks a significant hardening of rhetoric as the conflict in Ukraine continues.
