Indonesian Celebrity Ruben Onsu Reports Repeatedly Being addressed as ‘Alif‘ During umrah Pilgrimage
Jakarta, Indonesia – Indonesian television personality Ruben Onsu recounts a series of deeply personal and recurring experiences during his recent Umrah pilgrimage, where numerous individuals spontaneously greeted him by the name “Alif.” The experiences, beginning at the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina and continuing throughout his time in Mecca, have left Onsu profoundly moved and searching for spiritual meaning.
According to a report by detikcom quoted by FYP trans 7 on Thursday, November 9, 2025, Onsu first noticed the phenomenon upon entering the Prophet’s Mosque. “from the entrance of the Prophet’s Mosque I have been experienced. I don’t know who,” he stated, describing being greeted with “Assalamualaikum” by unseen individuals.this initial encounter was followed by similar greetings at different mosque entrances, each time from a different person, all addressing him as “Alif.”
The greetings persisted as Onsu traveled to Mecca.He described being repeatedly addressed as “alif” while praying and walking, creating a sense of familiarity with strangers. “Assalamualaikum Alif, as if we seemed to be familiar, like very familiar,” Onsu shared, visibly emotional.The moast striking incident occurred at the Kajang door of the kaaba. After easily touching the Hajar Aswad,Onsu reached out to hold the door itself. Unlike others around him, he was not physically moved by the Kaaba guards. While holding the door, he distinctly heard a voice whisper “Assalamualaikum Alif” directly into his ear. Startled, he immediately released his grip and retreated from the Kaaba.Onsu revealed he had kept the details of these experiences private, even from his team, until his return to Jakarta, hesitant to sensationalize what he considers a deeply spiritual event. He has not publicly speculated on the meaning of being repeatedly called “alif,” but acknowledges the profound impact the experiences have had on him.
