DR Athletes Strengthen Medal Prospects in Bolivarian Games
Valera, Venezuela – Dominican Republic athletes are bolstering the nation’s standing at the Bolivarian Games, achieving notable results in rowing, athletics, judo, and boxing as of December 4, 2025. These performances signal a potential surge in the medal count for the DR, with ongoing competitions offering further opportunities for success.
The Bolivarian Games, a multi-sport event featuring athletes from Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and Venezuela, provide a crucial platform for Dominican athletes to gain international experience and compete against regional rivals. Strong showings now could translate into advantages at larger competitions, including the Pan American Games and potentially the Olympics.
In judo competition, the Dominican Republic secured a bronze medal through Wandergi Mateo in the men’s -73kg category. The boxing team also saw success,with multiple Dominican fighters securing victories in preliminary rounds.
Elsewhere in the Games, Julibeth Payano Veras and Yari Cleto Rosario faced a setback in women’s volleyball, losing 0-2 (21-13, 21-16) to Venezuela’s Darlin Rodríguez and Sara López Alaña. The dominican volleyball team faces a critical juncture, needing to win their remaining two matches this Thursday to remain competitive.
Dominican tennis player Peter Bertrán progressed to the men’s singles semifinals, defeating Bolivia’s Santiago lora in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.Bertrán’s advancement adds another potential medal possibility for the Dominican Republic delegation.
