Roger Tuivasa-Sheck: Warriors Star Considers NRL Future & Potential League Switch
Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, the Warriors star, is poised to leave the National Rugby League (NRL) for the Super League at the conclusion of his current contract, according to reports. The potential move comes as the Warriors prepare to bolster their squad with new signings for the 2027 season.
Warriors coach Andrew Webster has indicated the club will support Tuivasa-Sheck’s decision, whatever it may be. “Whichever way it goes, whether he stays or wherever he ends up, plays union, plays league, he’ll go with our blessing,” Webster said. He also expressed the club’s desire to retain the player if possible, stating, “If there’s an opportunity at the end of the season for him to stay, we’d celebrate that too.”
Tuivasa-Sheck rejoined the Warriors in 2023 after a stint in rugby union with the Blues, where he also earned three caps for the All Blacks. He initially debuted for the Warriors in 2016 and recently reached his 150th game milestone with the club in March of this year. In 2025, he was awarded the Simon Mannering Medal, recognizing him as the Warriors’ player of the year for a fourth time.
The Warriors have already secured Will Warbrick from the Melbourne Storm for the 2027 season. Reports also suggest the club is in advanced negotiations with Grant Anderson from the Brisbane Broncos, potentially as part of a deal that would see co-captain Mitch Barnett depart for family reasons.
Tuivasa-Sheck has previously been linked with a move to the proposed R360 union competition, though that competition has yet to launch. He has also been mentioned in connection with a return to the Sydney Roosters, where he previously played, and the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Former Warriors player Jazz Tevaga currently plays for Wakefield in the Super League, a club with a long history – celebrating its 153rd year – and a past that includes two championships and five Challenge Cups, though their last trophy win dates back to 1968.
