roger Federer to be Inducted into international Tennis Hall of Fame
newport, RI – Roger Federer, the legendary Swiss tennis player, will be formally inducted into the International tennis Hall of Fame in August 2026. The announcement was made this Wednesday by the ITHF,cementing Federer’s place among the sport’s all-time greats. The ceremony will be held in Newport, Rhode Island.
Federer, who retired from professional tennis in 2022, expressed his deep gratitude for the honor. “It is a tremendous honor to be inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame adn to stand alongside so many great champions. To be recognized in this way by the sport and by my peers is a profound honor,” he stated.
The first male player to achieve 20 Grand Slam titles, Federer also holds the record for the most weeks ranked world number 1, a remarkable 237 consecutive weeks between 2004 and 2008. He further elaborated on his feelings, saying, “Throughout my career, I have always attached great importance to the history of tennis and the example set by those who preceded me.To be recognized in this way… is an immense honor.”
The eight-time Wimbledon champion reflected on his journey, admitting, “I never imagined entering the tennis pantheon or winning Wimbledon… I just hoped I woudl make it onto the professional circuit and that leaving school at 16 wouldn’t turn out to be a mistake. But things went faster and smoother than expected. Even if I too have had my battles and my setbacks.”
Federer will join an esteemed group of Hall of Fame inductees, including Margaret Court, Ken Rosewall, Rod Laver, Roy Emerson, Arthur Ashe, Billie Jean King, Stan Smith, Björn Borg, Jimmy Connors, and John mcenroe.Many anticipate that future champions Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic will also one day receive this prestigious recognition.federer looks forward to celebrating the occasion with the tennis community in Newport next August.
