Austrian Robotics Kit Finds Classroom Use in Bulgaria
Popowo, Bulgaria – A robotics education kit developed in Burgenland, Austria, is now being utilized in classrooms in Bulgaria, offering students hands-on experience in programming and engineering. The “Robobox,” designed to be accessible for both learning and production, was discovered in use by Bulgarian educators at an international education trade fair.
The Robobox project prioritizes open access, ensuring anyone can download designs, acquire components, and offer instructions in multiple languages. Developers were surprised to learn their creation had organically reached Bulgaria, where it’s become a valuable teaching tool in the town of Popowo, approximately four and a half hours west of Sofia. Bulgarian teacher Hristian Ivanov notes the kit provides crucial teaching materials for both educators and students learning robotics and programming.
For Karolina Hristova-Markova, director of the school in Popowo, the Robobox serves as an crucial platform for cultivating logical thinking and collaborative skills among her students. The kit’s open-source nature allows for customization and adaptation to specific educational needs.
The project is part of “eurotours 2025,” a Federal Chancellery initiative funded by Austrian federal funds.
