RKI numbers: Many corona cases – flu doesn’t play a big role

Germany is experiencing a surge in influenza cases, with numbers ⁢considerably higher than those reported during the same period last year, according to data released by the Robert‍ Koch Institute (RKI). ‍As of mid-October 2025, 395,095 influenza cases have been ⁢recorded nationwide, a substantial increase compared to the 204,412 cases reported by mid-October 2024. This rise in flu cases signals a possibly⁣ challenging respiratory⁢ illness season ahead, impacting public health adn healthcare systems across the country.

The increased incidence of ⁣influenza is particularly notable in Bavaria, which has registered the highest number ⁢of cases at 72,108. ⁣This figure surpasses the number of cases reported in North Rhine-Westphalia, a‍ state with a considerably larger population, which recorded 63,965 cases. Saxony,⁣ a smaller federal state with‌ approximately four million residents,‌ is also ⁣experiencing a⁣ disproportionately⁤ high number of infections, reporting 43,262 cases as of mid-October. The RKI continues to monitor the situation ‌and provide updates as ‍the ⁤influenza season progresses.
