Royal Enfield‘s New Bear 650 Aims to revive ‘Desert Sled’ Appeal

Auckland, New Zealand -⁣ Royal Enfield has launched the Bear 650, ‌a new ‍motorcycle designed to capture the spirit of classic ⁤”desert sleds,” offering a⁢ blend of retro styling and off-road capability. The bike shares its 650cc engine with the Interceptor roadster and Continental GT café racer, but features a tuned two-into-one exhaust for increased⁣ low-end torque⁣ and top-end power.

Key ⁤features‍ of the ⁤Bear‌ 650 include rear ABS that can be defeated with the⁢ push of a ‌button, increased ground ⁢clearance (184mm) compared to the⁣ Interceptor, and an⁣ additional 30mm of suspension travel. It’s equipped with‌ 19-inch front ‌and 17-inch rear spoked wheels fitted with MRF tires optimized for both on- and off-road use. ⁤A‍ double-cradle⁤ steel frame, longer wheelbase, ⁣and ⁢slacker rake contribute to stability, while 43mm USD forks handle⁤ impacts.

Reviewers note the bike’s lower center of gravity ⁢allows for easier powersliding compared to taller adventure bikes. The Bear 650 also boasts a retro-styled⁤ instrument cluster housing a TFT screen, ⁤and all-LED lighting.

The 47bhp engine delivers “smooth, consistent riding force,”⁣ paired with a six-speed gearbox. Though, some drawbacks include firm rear shocks and a perhaps flimsy toggle for adjusting the TFT screen. The bike is well-suited ‌for gravel roads ⁣and smooth fire‌ breaks,‍ and also performs well on paved ⁣surfaces due to its accurate steering and cozy riding position.
