geilo, Norway to Host Biathlon Season Opener with Women’s Sprint on November 15th
GEILO, Norway – The 2025 biathlon season will officially kick off in Geilo, Norway, on Saturday, November 15th, with the women’s sprint race scheduled for 11:30 a.m. local time.This marks a notable shift for the Norwegian Biathlon Union,which has moved the season’s start from Sjusjøen after over a decade.
The event, anticipated to be a ”folk festival” for the Hallingdal region and beyond, will feature international participation and live television coverage.Following the women’s sprint, the men’s sprint will take place at 2:00 p.m. on the same day. Sunday, November 16th, will host joint start heats, beginning with the women’s Heat 1 at 9:50 a.m. and the men’s Heat 1 at 10:40 a.m., followed by Heat 2 for both genders at 12:45 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. respectively. The move to Geilo aims to showcase the area as a premier winter sports destination during the Olympic season.
