Renalfa and Eurowind open Tenevo hybrid energy park in Bulgaria
Renalfa IPP and Eurowind Energy officially opened the Tenevo hybrid renewable energy park in southeastern Bulgaria, combining a 242 MWp photovoltaic plant with energy storage systems totaling 311 MW of power and 772.5 MWh of capacity, 3e-news reported.
Yambol Complex Generates 332 GWh of Green Electricity Annually
The newly inaugurated complex in Yambol region is designed to generate approximately 332 GWh of green electricity annually, according to dbr.bg. The facility integrates solar generation with advanced battery storage to manage output fluctuations. capital.bg noted that the first 69 MW of photovoltaics at the site launched early last year when national solar capacity stood at 4.5 GW. By the end of September, national solar installations reached 7.2 GW, while battery storage capacity expanded to 5.4 GW. The initial phase of the Tenevo battery energy storage system (BESS), comprising 65 MW of power and 260 MWh of capacity, is already operational alongside the solar array. The broader project plan targets a final BESS configuration of 311 MW and 772.5 MWh, managed in stages.
Solarpro Holding Manages Construction with InvestEU Guarantees
Solarpro Holding serves as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor and project manager for the complex. A subsequent financing package of 60 million euros is advancing for the second phase of the battery system. The development stands among the first in Bulgaria to utilize guarantees under the European Union’s InvestEU program.
Corporate Leadership Perspectives
Ivo Prokopiev, founder and chief executive officer of Renalfa Solarpro Group, described the complex as the first example in Europe for managed renewable energy assets of this scale, emphasizing the role of institutional backing from the EBRD and RBI in structuring innovative business models. Jens Rasmussen, founder and chief executive officer of Eurowind Energy, highlighted the collaborative framework behind the asset. Mark Bowman, vice president for policy and partnerships at the EBRD, pointed to the project as evidence of how aligned policies mobilize private capital across Bulgaria and southeastern Europe.
Tenevo Site Adds Wind Power to Hybrid Park
Beyond the operational solar and storage units, developers intend to add more than 250 MW of wind power capacity to the Tenevo site. With all projected phases incorporated, total investments in the hybrid park are expected to exceed 500 million euros. Photomate contributed inverters and transformer stations to the electrical infrastructure, working alongside Solarpro Holding.
