Regional health system Reid Health is transforming its patient care by equipping every room with advanced AI-driven technology through a collaboration with hellocare.ai. This initiative aims to elevate both the patient and nursing experience while boosting operational efficiency.

AI-Powered Patient Rooms Unveiled

The newly implemented hellocare.ai technology features voice-activated controls and high-definition cameras. These innovations enable virtual nursing, virtual patient observation, and telehealth services, creating a more responsive and connected healthcare environment.

Interactive digital whiteboards and smart room signage are also integral to the upgrade. All these systems are seamlessly integrated and synchronized with the Epic healthcare software, streamlining data flow and accessibility for clinicians.

Demonstrated Impact and Educational Integration

During a pilot phase from June to October last year, the new technology saw substantial clinician adoption. Over 5,800 writebacks to the Epic system and more than 14,000 badge accesses to whiteboards were recorded, highlighting the system’s immediate utility.

The impact of this AI integration extends to medical education. The IVY Tech Simulation Lab now utilizes hellocare.ai technology, offering nursing students practical experience with the same tools they will encounter in real patient settings.

Broader AI Adoption at Reid Health

This advancement follows Reid Health’s enterprise-wide agreement with Abridge in August of the previous year. Abridge provides generative AI technology specifically designed for clinical documentation, further embedding AI across the health system’s operations.

Hospitals are increasingly adopting AI for operational efficiency. For example, Mayo Clinic is using AI to analyze medical images, aiming to speed up diagnosis and treatment planning for patients with certain cancers.
