Regenerative Agriculture Takes Center Stage at Stockholm Food Forum 2025, Linking Soil Health to Global Nutrition
STOCKHOLM – A critical side event at the upcoming Stockholm Food Forum 2025 will explore the powerful connection between regenerative agriculture, resilient food systems, and improved global nutrition. The event, titled ”Scaling Regenerative Agriculture and Agroecology for Climate Resilience, Nutrition, and Food System Change,” scheduled for October 3, 2025, aims to translate research into actionable strategies for a healthier and more sustainable future.
The session will convene experts from scientific research, farming communities, and the private sector to dissect the practicalities of expanding regenerative agricultural practices. Discussions will center on navigating the challenges, understanding potential trade-offs, and identifying opportunities to ensure equitable benefits for farmers, particularly women and youth, during this crucial transition.
A key focus will be on how regenerative agriculture – which prioritizes restoring soil health, enhancing biodiversity, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions – can directly address nutritional deficiencies. Jef Leroy, Senior Research Fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and Area of Work Lead for the CGIAR’s Better Diets and Nutrition Science Program, will contribute a vital nutritional perspective. He will address fundamental questions: What constitutes a truly healthy diet, what essential nutrients are commonly lacking, and how can regenerative agriculture be leveraged to bridge these gaps? He will also examine the strategic considerations for choosing between regenerative agriculture and other solutions – or a combination thereof - to optimize dietary health.
“We need to move beyond simply sustaining our food systems and actively regenerate them,” organizers state. “This event will explore how we can shift from uniform, industrial models to more diverse and regenerative approaches, securing healthier diets and a more resilient future for all.”
The event is a side event within the broader Stockholm Food Forum 2025, highlighting the growing recognition of regenerative agriculture and agroecology as vital components of a climate-resilient and equitable food system. More facts can be found at https://eatforum.org/side-events-2/.
