Rangers Complete Sweep of Brewers, Extend Winning Streak
ARLINGTON, TX – September 14, 2023 – The Texas Rangers completed a three-game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday, despite a challenging game that saw Milwaukee briefly take the lead. The Rangers’ victory comes as they continue to navigate a roster impacted by injuries, adn extends their MLB-best record to 14-4 since August 22.Milwaukee (89-58) jumped to an early 2-0 lead with back-to-back home runs from Brice Turang and Jackson chourio. However, Texas rallied, fueled by two home runs from Jake Burger, ultimately securing a win after falling behind 5-2.
The Brewers now have a day off before hosting the St. Louis Cardinals in a three-game series starting Friday night, followed by a three-game set against the Los Angeles Angels. Milwaukee’s lead in the NL central is now 5 1/2 games over the Chicago Cubs, who won 3-2 at Atlanta on Wednesday night.
Texas (77-70) is now seven games over .500 for the first time this season. The team has achieved this success despite having key players like Nathan Eovaldi, Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, Adolis García, and Evan Carter on the injured list, relying rather on contributions from a wave of impactful rookie players.
“You keep the same approach. This was a great homestand, a great series,” Texas manager Bruce Bochy said. “So we’ll keep talking about, well, every series is big, every game is big. And these guys are doing a great job of putting not just the losses behind them, but the wins and keeping their focus and just playing great baseball.”
On the mound for Milwaukee, All-Star right-hander Freddy Peralta (16-6) struck out nine over five innings but saw his chance to become the first MLB pitcher with 17 wins slip away. His 30-inning scoreless streak, dating back to August 5,was broken by Burger’s first home run.Peralta also struggled with control, issuing two walks in the third inning and allowing two runs, including one on a balk due to a miscommunication with the batter.
“It was a little confusion,” Peralta said. “When I looked, it surprised me as well. I did balk.Yeah,I did.”
Peralta and the Brewers finished the road trip at 3-3 after winning all three games at Pittsburgh last weekend. They return home with an opportunity to clinch a postseason berth and pursue their third consecutive division title – a feat the franchise has never accomplished.
“We’re coming back home now,” Peralta said.”And I know that good things are coming. Its just prepare for that.”
Texas will next face the New York Mets in a three-game series, featuring a highly anticipated matchup between Rangers pitcher Jacob deGrom, a former Mets star, and his former team.Following the Mets series, the Rangers will travel to Houston for three games against the AL West-leading Astros, who hold a 2 1/2-game lead over Texas. Seattle remains 1 1/2 games ahead of texas for the American League’s final wild card spot after a 13-inning win over St. Louis.
