1,500 Rally in Munich to Condemn Rising Antisemitism in germany
Munich, Germany – In a powerful display of solidarity, approximately 1,500 people braved heavy rainfall on Sunday to demonstrate against antisemitism in munich’s Königsplatz. The rally comes amid growing concerns over a surge in hate speech and threats targeting Jewish communities in Germany, and in the context of ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The notable turnout drew strong reactions from prominent figures. Volker Beck, former Green Party member of parliament and chairman of the German-Israeli Society, declared from the podium: “From Munich, a signal goes out: We are taking this country back!” Beck’s statement underscored the determination to reclaim Germany from the rising tide of antisemitism.
The demonstration was addressed by a diverse group of leaders including Talya Lador Fresher, Israel’s Consul General; Kerstin Griese, State Secretary in the Federal ministry of Labour and Social Affairs; Ilse Aigner, President of the Bavarian Parliament; Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder; Josef Schuster, President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany; and Ralph Friedländer, President of the Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities.
Beck specifically linked the rally to the increasing hostility towards Jewish people within Germany, and also addressed the current situation in the Middle East, calling on Hamas to accept a 20-point peace plan proposed by former US president Donald Trump as a means to end the violence.
The demonstration serves as a clear message that Germany will not tolerate antisemitism and stands firmly with its Jewish community. The event highlights the urgency of addressing hate speech and protecting Jewish life in the face of escalating tensions both domestically and internationally.
