Wrestler Syko Stu’s Family Launches Fundraiser Following On-Air Assault
LOS ANGELES – The family of professional wrestler Stuart “Syko Stu” Smith has launched a GoFundMe campaign to support his recovery after he was attacked during a livestreamed event on Aug. 26. The incident, which occurred at a KnokX Pro Wrestling show in Los Angeles, was broadcast on Jackson’s KICK account and quickly went viral, prompting an investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department and a ban of Jackson’s account from the streaming platform.
The attack involved Raja Jackson, son of former UFC fighter Rampage Jackson, and left Smith injured. As of aug. 27, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident, according to police. The GoFundMe,linked on Smith’s and an associate’s Facebook pages,aims to cover “uncovered costs,loss of income,and to support his recovery,” and has already raised over $120,000.
KICK confirmed to USA TODAY that Jackson’s account was banned following the incident. “KICK’s community guidelines make it clear that excessive violence is not permitted,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to USA TODAY that a police report was taken and that the department is investigating. A department spokesperson told USA TODAY that, as of Aug. 26, no arrests have been made.KnokX Pro Wrestling, the school where the incident took place, released a statement calling the act “reprehensible and never should have occurred.” The school offers courses in professional wrestling techniques, emphasizing safety in performing maneuvers. USA TODAY has reached out to KnokX for further comment but has not received a response.
