Queensland Father Speaks Out After Ex-Partner Accused of Poisoning Their Daughter
BRISBANE, QLD – A Queensland father is speaking out with heartbreak and frustration after his ex-partner was arrested in January, accused of poisoning their baby daughter for alleged financial gain and online notoriety. The allegations, detailed by A Current Affair, paint a disturbing picture of medical abuse and deception.
Police allege the mother intentionally harmed the child, leading to needless medical interventions, including two high-risk brain surgeries. The father, who has been cleared of any wrongdoing by investigators, now faces limited, supervised visits with his daughter.
The investigation revealed the baby was once prescribed carbamazepine (Tegretol) to manage seizures, but the medication was discontinued by doctors when it proved ineffective. However, tests later showed the drug was still present in the child’s system. “So she was to no longer have this drug but it was still found in her system,” A Current Affair reported to the father. He confirmed this, adding, “Yep, which is a very serious thing, it can be a hazardous drug.” Police state the level found – 18 milligrams – was a critically important dose, nearing the lethal level of 25 milligrams for a child.
The father described being shown footage by police of his ex-partner allegedly tampering with the baby’s nasogastric tube while in hospital. “Police say they have footage of her with a syringe, she covered your baby under a blanket in hospital, fiddled with the nasogastric tube and moved the camera,” A Current Affair stated. He confirmed the existence of the footage.
As a result of the allegations, all children the couple share have been removed from both parents’ care. The father vehemently denies any involvement in harming his daughter. “No,” he answered when asked if he had ever harmed her. “Were you aware she was being harmed?” A Current Affair pressed. “No,” he replied. He stated police have repeatedly questioned him but have assured him he will not be charged. ”They did [say that],” he confirmed.
Despite the ongoing investigation, the mother has been granted bail and is permitted video calls with the baby. She also has physical visitation with their other children, a situation the father finds deeply upsetting. “That aggravated me enough, I don’t see how that’s possibly reasonable,” he said.
Adding another layer to the case, a video surfaced of the mother speaking at a church prior to meeting the father, where she claimed to have been diagnosed with stage five chronic kidney disease requiring dialysis. “I was soon diagnosed with stage five chronic kidney disease…I strongly believe that through the healing power of god, I will not need to get a kidney transplant,” she stated in the video. The father believes this was a false claim. “She stood in front of all those people, told them of this condition that she had supposedly had that she certainly did not have,” he told A Current Affair.
The father maintains his innocence and expresses a desperate desire to be reunited with his children. When asked what it woudl mean to get his kids back, he responded tearfully, “Everything. It might not feel like it now as I don’t get to see them very frequently enough but I do love them and I do miss them and I’m doing everything I can to get them to come home.”
He reports his daughter is currently “doing really well” and “still knows who daddy is, she gets that big, goofy smile when she sees me,” offering a glimmer of hope amidst the devastating circumstances.
