President Vladimir Putin has signed a new law that designates certain internet searches as extremist content, introducing penalties that include fines for individuals conducting such searches. This legislative move significantly expands the scope of what is considered extremist within Russia’s digital landscape.

The law broadens the definition of extremist content to encompass not only alleged terrorist groups but also political opposition figures and religious movements.notably, organizations associated with the late opposition politician Alexei Navalny, who died in Russia, are classified as extremist. Additionally, movements advocating for the rights of sexual minorities fall under this designation.

The official registry of extremist internet content in Russia now lists over 5,000 entries. This development follows previous actions by Moscow to restrict access
