PSG Beat Barcelona 4-2 With Late Goals to Top League Phase
Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz scored late goals to give Paris Saint-Germain a 4-2 Champions League victory over Barcelona at the Parc des Princes, rte.ie reported. The win keeps Luis Enrique’s side at the top of the league phase on goal difference after three matches.
Vitinha and Ruiz Seal Late Victory at Parc des Princes
Vitinha broke a 2-2 deadlock in the 81st minute with a long-range strike from just outside the penalty area. That goal arrived moments after Barcelona substitute Lamine Yamal had equalized for the visitors. Fabian Ruiz then added a fourth goal shortly before the final whistle to secure the three points.
Barcelona struggled defensively throughout the fixture. Desire Doue opened the scoring for the French champions just before half-time after intercepting a loose ball in the opposition half. The Spanish visitors fell behind at the interval for the first time this season.
Defensive Vulnerabilities Undermine Barcelona Comeback
Barcelona fought back in the second half when Fermin Lopez combined with Xavi Espart in the 56th minute to set up the right-back for a clean finish. Lamine Yamal later leveled the score again at 2-2 following a solo run past Warren Zaire-Emery.
Despite those efforts, defensive errors plagued the visitors. Ferran Torres missed a point-blank opportunity in the 72nd minute, hitting the right post. Moments later, Lucas Hernandez capitalized on the ensuing corner by powering home a header to restore the lead for Paris Saint-Germain.
Goalkeeping Heroics Keep Barcelona Within Reach
Goalkeeper Joan Garcia prevented a wider margin of defeat by stopping multiple early attempts. Garcia denied shots from Pedri and Ferran Torres within the opening exchanges and made two critical saves in the first five minutes alone.
At the other end, Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Matvey Safonov stopped a driving run from Pedri and blocked a one-on-one attempt by England winger Anthony Gordon. Gordon also missed a close-range chance at the far post.
Torres entered the match as a 20th-minute substitute following an injury to Ousmane Dembele. The result leaves Paris Saint-Germain with three wins in the league phase.
