Preta Gil’s US Cancer Treatment: Updates & Celebrity Visits

Preta Gil Begins Experimental Cancer Treatment in New York

Singer Preta Gil has traveled to New York to commence an experimental treatment for cancer,utilizing new medicines currently in the final stages of study. Gil,who was hospitalized for 55 days,shared her plans in an interview with Fantástico in February,stating,”So,in April,I start to New York to have a treatment there with new medicines.” She acknowledged the privileges afforded to her, noting, “I have a thousand privileges, I know I have, it makes all the difference.”

During her stay in the United States, Gil received visits from numerous friends, including Regina Casé, Cynthia Sangalo, Ju de Paulla, and Claudia Raia. Her family, including sisters Bela Gil and Maria Gil, stepmother Flora gil, and father Gilberto Gil, also visited her. Gil expressed her gratitude for the support, writing, “Simultaneously occurring, I am physically and spiritually strengthening myself, receiving a lot of love. I love you all, thank you for all the daily messages, prayers and positive energy. You heal me!”

Background on Preta Gil’s Cancer Journey

Preta Gil was diagnosed with intestinal cancer in January 2023. she underwent surgery in August of the same year to remove the tumor, which also resulted in the removal of her uterus. In December 2023, she celebrated the completion of her initial treatment, which included a procedure for the reconstruction of part of her intestinal tract.

In August 2024, Gil announced that she would resume cancer treatment after the disease was detected in four locations in her body. She began chemotherapy in Brazil that same month. In December 2024, she underwent an extensive surgery lasting over 18 hours to remove tumors that had spread throughout her body, including two in the lymph nodes, a nodule in the ureter, and metastasis in the peritoneum.
