Pregnant Teen’s Sisters Share Heartbreaking Details in Frist Interview As Boyfriend Confessed to Murder
Rehoboth, MA – In a deeply emotional and exclusive interview with NBC 10, the sisters of 18-year-old kylee Monteiro, who was tragically murdered while 11 weeks pregnant, have spoken out for the first time since her boyfriend, 22-year-old Gregory Groom, confessed to the crime. The sisters, Faith and Catherine Monteiro, paint a picture of a vibrant young woman with dreams for the future, whose life was cut short by a rapidly escalating and ultimately deadly relationship.
A Life Full of Promise, Marked by Loss
Kylee, described by her sister Catherine as “someone who lit up the room,” faced early hardship with the loss of her mother at the age of 13. Following her mother’s death, Kylee moved in with her aunt and uncle in Attleboro and persevered, graduating from Attleboro High School with aspirations of becoming a welder.
“She was full of life, even though she didn’t have the easiest life,” Catherine shared.
However, those dreams were brutally extinguished when Groom allegedly stabbed Kylee and buried her body on his 25-acre property in Rehoboth. He appeared in court last week on murder charges.
Red Flags and a Rapidly Escalating Relationship
The sisters revealed their growing concerns about Kylee’s relationship with Groom, whom she met at a park in Attleboro. While Kylee appeared happy, Faith noted, “The only thing that worried us is that their relationship was moving fast.”
Within weeks of dating, Kylee left her relatives’ home to move in with Groom at his grandparents’ house – a decision that deeply troubled Faith and Catherine. Despite their pleas for her to return home, Kylee remained with Groom.
A Cycle of Instability and a Desperate Plea for Help
The relationship continued to be turbulent. Kylee was eventually asked to leave Groom’s grandparents’ home and briefly sought refuge at Bethesda House, a shelter for homeless mothers and their babies in Pembroke, Massachusetts. She was later brought back to the Rehoboth property, where arguments reportedly resumed.
in a chilling foreshadowing of the tragedy to come, Kylee sent a desperate text message to Faith on the night of August 6th, reading: “He threw me on the ground and pulled my hair and strangled me. my phones at 4% if I die it was Greg.”
Faith instantly contacted Groom, attempting to de-escalate the situation. she recounted telling both Kylee and Greg, “Listen, we’re not in first grade, we certainly know not to put our hands on each other… this isn’t safe… I’ll come and get you.”
Despite her warnings, Kylee insisted she wanted to stay and work things out, telling Faith, “We’re going to talk about the future… we have plans… we’re fine now… I love you so much.” Those were her last words to her sister.
