Isabel, heavily pregnant and elated after selecting her wedding dress, was detained by immigration agents upon returning home, her family says. The arrest of Isabel and her husband, manuel, has thrown the family into turmoil as they navigate the complexities of the U.S. immigration system and fear for Isabel’s well-being and the health of her unborn child.
The couple’s detention highlights the anxieties faced by many immigrant families, particularly pregnant women, caught in the web of deportation proceedings. Alejandra Urdaneta, Isabel’s sister, shared that Isabel expressed profound fear, stating, “Yesterday she told me that she was very afraid, that she couldn’t feel the baby.” The family is urgently seeking Isabel’s release to ensure she can continue her pregnancy safely, as this is her first child.
According to Urdaneta, the arrests have been devastating. “isabel is very afraid, she is desperate, she sees the deportations every day and we are worried about her physical and mental state,” she said. Family, friends, and patrons of the couple’s bakery are now fundraising to cover mounting legal fees and secure bail.
Isabel and Manuel are scheduled for a court date on December 5th. The family hopes for a swift resolution that allows them to continue their immigration process from a position of safety and freedom, ensuring a secure environment for their growing family.
