A recent phone conversation between the leaders of the United States and Indonesia has further cemented their relationship. This discussion, which took place shortly after both leaders secured re-election, signals a commitment to fostering cooperation on a global scale.

Prabowo Subianto, the Indonesian President, recently spoke with United States President Donald Trump on Thursday night, June 12, 2025. The conversation lasted approximately fifteen minutes and involved the exchange of greetings and a mutual pledge to bolster collaboration between the two nations. These details were shared in a written statement released on Friday, June 13, 2025, by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy explained that both presidents discussed the state of affairs in their respective countries. During the call, Prabowo congratulated Trump on his successful re-election. The Cabinet Secretariat stated that President Trump also offered his congratulations on Prabowo’s election as the 8th President of Indonesia.
Focus on Cooperation
The leaders also talked about bolstering cooperation between Indonesia and the United States. They agreed to strengthen bilateral relations and reaffirmed their dedication to supporting global stability and peace. This call wasn’t their first interaction, as the two had spoken previously on November 11, 2024, following their respective election victories.
Prabowo had also expressed a desire to meet with Trump to discuss worldwide matters, including rising trade tensions. He expressed interest in attending the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Turkey on April 11, 2025. The United States is one of Indonesia’s top trading partners, with two-way trade in goods reaching nearly $36 billion in 2022 (U.S. Trade Representative).

Following a state visit to Singapore, Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to continue his foreign agenda with a visit to St. Petersburg, Russia. He departed after concluding his official agenda in Singapore on Monday night, June 16, 2025. The presidential aircraft departed from Paya Lebar Air Base, Singapore Air Force Base.
