Portuguese Man Found Dead Near Lima River in Spain
On Tuesday night, a 50-year-old Portuguese citizen was found dead on the bank of the Lima River in the municipality of Lobios, within the Spanish province of Ourense, after reportedly falling from a bridge into a steep, hard-to-reach area, according to local emergency reports.
Emergency Response and Recovery Operations in Lobios
Emergency responders arrived to find the victim in terrain that required technical rope work. As detailed by Notícias ao Minuto, members of the rescue team had to descend the cliffside in rappel directly from the bridge above. They subsequently hoisted the victim’s body up from the riverbed using the same vertical rigging system. Despite the intervention of medical personnel, first responders could do nothing to save the man’s life. The recovery operation concluded in the early morning hours, with the body extracted at 4:40 and transferred to the Complexo Hospitalar Universitário de Ourense (CHUO) for an official autopsy.
The remote nature of the terrain necessitated a coordinated deployment of specialized regional emergency units from the Galicia region and Spanish law enforcement.
According to regional accounts, the operation mobilized personnel from the Servicio de Emergencias Médicas de Galiza-061, the Grupos de Emergência Supramunicipais (GES) of Lobios and Muíños, and the Guardia Civil.
The Guardia Civil has initiated standard procedures to investigate the precise sequence of the fall, while the medical examiner’s office at the CHUO in Ourense finalizes the post-mortem examination.
