During a particularly frustrating match for Porto, the last Portuguese representative in the Champions League lost at home, against Chelsea (0-2).
This is perhaps the worst scenario that could happen to Porto. While they showed a good face, despite the significant absences of Sergio Oliveira and of Mahdi Taremi, the men of Sergio Conceição were punished by much more realistic Londoners this Wednesday evening, during the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals. The Portuguese first saw England’s Chelsea open the scoring at the half-hour mark on their first situation thanks to a sublime inspiration from Masoun Mount, before doubling the end of the game on a goal of Ben Chilwell.
With this rather very severe defeat, Porto minimizes their chances of qualifying for the next round. To continue the European adventure, the Portuguese will indeed have to win by three goals in the return match which will take place next week. Note that a 2-0 victory would allow the reigning national champions to hang in extra time.
