Lviv,Ukraine – september 1,2025 – Ukrainian law enforcement has detained a 52-year-old resident of Lviv on suspicion of murdering People’s Deputy and former Verkhovna Rada Chairman andriy Parubiy,with investigators now exploring potential links to the Russian Federation. The proclamation follows a large-scale manhunt launched after Parubiy was shot and killed in Lviv on August 30th.
The head of the Lviv regional prosecutor’s office, Mykola meriet, stated the suspicion is “based on objective evidence that indicate a murder of a people’s deputy by a detainee person.” The suspect faces charges under Part 1 of Art. 115 (intentional murder) and Part 1 of Art. 263 (illegal handling of weapons) of the Criminal code of Ukraine. Investigative actions are ongoing, including searches of the suspect’s residence and known locations. Prosecutors are preparing a petition to the court for detention without bail.
president Volodymyr Zelensky announced the detention of a suspect on September 1st, with Interior Minister Igor Klimenko specifying the arrest occured in the Khmelnytskyi region. While authorities initially stated there was no immediate evidence linking the murder to Irina Farion, the examination is broadening to assess any potential external involvement, including possible ties to Russia, given Zelensky’s earlier statement that the murder was “carefully prepared.”
Parubiy,a prominent political figure,was fatally shot with several gunshots on August 30th,prompting the activation of a “Siren” special operation in Lviv. He was buried on September 2nd at the lychakiv Cemetery in lviv.
