Russian Drones Breached Polish Airspace During Ukraine Attack
Warsaw, Poland – Polish authorities reported 19 violations of its airspace by Russian drones on Wednesday evening, following a large-scale Russian attack on Ukraine. Debris from the drones was discovered in multiple locations across Poland, including central regions of the country.
Prime minister Donald Tusk stated the airspace was breached 19 times. As of 5:30 p.m. CEST, the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the recovery of at least twelve drone fragments. Finds were reported in Korytnica,east of Warsaw,and near a Polish territorial defense barracks in Nowe Miasto on the Pilica,southwest of the capital. additional debris was located in the Holy Cross, Lublin, Lodz, and Warmia-Masuria Voivodeships.
The drones, identified by EU sources as Iranian-built Shaheed models used by the Russian military, entered Polish airspace during the overnight hours of Wednesday.
russia has not denied the drones’ incursion but has disputed any intention to attack EU or NATO territory.
Following discussions with leaders from France, germany, Grate Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Ukraine, and NATO, Prime Minister Tusk announced offers of support to strengthen Poland’s air defense capabilities. “I not only received statements of solidarity with Poland,but above all suggestions for concrete support for the air defense of our country,” Tusk stated via X (formerly twitter).
