KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is currently undertaking a three-day official visit to China,aiming to strengthen strategic ties and bolster economic cooperation between the two nations. The visit, which began today, includes high-level meetings with Chinese leaders and captains of industry, alongside the signing of at least 14 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) focused on trade and agriculture.
This trip underscores the critical importance of the Malaysia-China relationship, particularly as China has been Malaysia’s largest trading partner since 2009. In 2022, bilateral trade reached RM487.13 billion – a 15.6% increase from the previous year - representing 17.1% of Malaysia’s total global trade volume of RM2.8 trillion. The agreements forged during this visit are expected to further enhance economic growth and investment for both countries.
Prime Minister Anwar is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at a business forum attended by approximately 1,000 participants from Malaysia and China. Despite a full schedule, he will also participate in a breaking of fast ceremony with Malaysians residing in china, hosted by the Malaysia-china Chamber of Commerce, and attended by leaders of Muslim communities within China.
The Malaysian delegation accompanying the Prime minister includes minister of international Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Minister of Transport Anthony Loke, Minister of Local Government Growth Nga Kor Ming, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Chang Lih Kang, and Minister of tourism, Arts and Culture datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.
