A powerful storm has left a grandmother and her grandson with autism homeless after their house at 59th Avenue and Indian School Road was severely damaged.
The storm’s intense winds ripped the roof off the Chrisco family’s home, causing it to collapse onto their car. An air conditioning unit was also dislodged, striking vehicles before falling to the ground.
Frances Chrisco, a resident of the home for four decades, was inside with her grandson, Anthony, when the severe weather struck. she described the experiance, stating, “It really got bad when the wind started blowing. It was so hard that I thought the rain and wind was going to break the windows.”
the situation escalated when she witnessed the roof being torn from the house. “I went to the garage to get a bucket to put it so it doesn’t ruin the carpet and I saw it go over the garage, and it was loud,” Chrisco recounted.
The damage extended into the interior, with the kitchen ceiling collapsing first, exposing the home’s interior to the elements. The kitchen, living room, and garage all suffered damage, and water saturated furniture and personal belongings.
“I just got really scared about it and I got soaking wet,” said her grandson, Anthony Chrisco.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. The family is currently staying in a hotel while they assess the situation.
“It’s very hard. I wonder what I’m going to do next. Like I said, I don’t have anything in there. Everything is going to be thrown out basically,” Chrisco expressed.
A GoFundMe campaign has been established to provide support to the family as they navigate the challenges of rebuilding their lives without their home.
