Remains Found in Philadelphia Confirmed as Missing Woman Kada Scott; Man Charged
PHILADELPHIA (october 16, 2023) – Philadelphia prosecutors have confirmed that remains discovered at a school over the weekend are those of Kada Scott, who had been missing since October 4th. A man, identified as Jamar King, has been taken into custody and faces charges including kidnapping, stalking, arson, and conspiracy related to ScottS disappearance and death.
District Attorney Larry Krasner stated at a news conference, “I am confident that homicide charges will be brought,” while emphasizing the need to adhere to legal and constitutional processes.
Investigators were initially led to the school following a tip last week, but a more specific tip received this weekend prompted a second search that led to the discovery of Scott’s remains. Authorities believe others may have been involved after Scott’s initial abduction, and that line of inquiry remains active.
Prosecutors allege King and Scott had recent cellphone contact. A stolen black Hyundai Accent, found burned and compacted at a junkyard, is also linked to the case. The vehicle was reportedly seen on video near the recreation center where Scott’s body was found on the night she disappeared. Additional charges filed against King relate to the arson of the stolen vehicle, including causing or risking a catastrophe.
King was previously arrested earlier this year on charges of kidnapping and assault, but those charges were dropped when the victim and a witness failed to appear in court.
Scott, an employee at an assisted living facility, is remembered by her parents as a source of “light, kindness and gorgeous spirit.” they released a statement Monday expressing their heartbreak and requesting prayers.
