Peloton Unveils AI-Powered fitness System adn new Hardware Lineup
NEW YORK – Peloton today launched Peloton IQ, an AI-powered subscription service utilizing computer vision, alongside a revamped lineup of its Bike, Tread, and row machines. The release marks the company’s largest hardware launch in years, signaling a potential turning point after a period of significant challenges.
Peloton faced a tumultuous 2022, marked by a decline in stock value and negative publicity, including a fictionalized depiction of a heart attack linked to its equipment in the television show Billions. The company saw its CEO and cofounder, john Foley, step down as potential acquisitions by Amazon, Apple, and Nike were discussed.
However, under current CEO Peter Stern, formerly of Ford and Apple, Peloton’s stock has shown signs of recovery. The company’s recent focus on strength training led to the triumphant launch of the Strength+ app.
Peloton IQ and the new hardware are designed to offer a personalized workout experience, allowing users to seamlessly transition between cardio, yoga, and strength training. The new Bike, Tread, and row feature swivel screens, enhanced audio, and upgraded processors, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.
the upgraded “Plus” line within the Cross training Series includes a movement tracking camera, speakers tuned by Sonos with a woofer, hands-free control, and a fan. Both bikes now include a cushioned seat, and the Bike+ features a phone tray.
The movement tracking technology within Peloton IQ builds upon lessons learned from the 2022 Peloton Guide, offering form correction and integrating features from the Peloton Strength+ app to support self-directed workout plans guided by Peloton’s instructors.
While Peloton chief product officer Nick Caldwell claims the level of specificity in movement tracking is unique to peloton, similar experiences are available through competitors like Tonal and Speediance Gym Monster.
