Former NBA Champion Paul Pierce Arrested on Suspicion of DUI
Los Angeles, CA – Paul Pierce, a ten-time NBA All-Star and 2008 NBA Finals MVP, was arrested late Tuesday night on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.The arrest occurred on U.S. Highway 101 in Los Angeles after california Highway Patrol officers discovered Pierce asleep at the wheel of a Range Rover.
The incident unfolded as officers were reopening lanes following an earlier multi-vehicle collision. Upon finding Pierce’s vehicle obstructing traffic,officers observed signs of alcohol impairment,leading to a DUI inquiry and subsequent arrest. Pierce faces a misdemeanor charge and the case will be reviewed by the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office. this arrest casts a shadow over the legacy of a celebrated basketball career and initiates a legal process with potential ramifications for the Hall of famer.
According to a statement from the California Highway Patrol, officers responded to the initial car crash around 10:40 p.m., temporarily closing four lanes of the northbound highway. Approximately an hour later, after clearing the accident scene, they located Pierce’s vehicle stopped in the roadway.
pierce, 46, spent 15 seasons with the Boston Celtics, leading the team to an NBA championship in 2008. He also played for the Brooklyn Nets, Washington Wizards, and los angeles Clippers before retiring in 2017.He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2021. Most recently, Pierce was a co-host of the Fox Sports show Speak, which was canceled in July 2024. He has not yet publicly commented on the arrest.
