Chilean Runners Dominate 13th patagonian International Marathon in Torres del Paine
torres del Paine, Chile – Chilean athletes achieved a resounding victory at the 13th annual Patagonian International Marathon, held this past Saturday in the stunning landscapes of Torres del paine National Park. over a thousand runners participated in the challenging race, but it was Chilean competitors who claimed the majority of the top spots across all distances.
The event, a fixture in the Chilean sporting calendar, draws athletes from around the globe to test their endurance against the region’s demanding terrain. This year’s results underscore the growing strength of Chilean distance running, with five of the six category winners hailing from the country. The marathon not only showcases athletic prowess but also boosts tourism to the Magallanes and Chilean Antarctic Region, solidifying its position as a key event for both sports enthusiasts and the local economy.
Spanish runner Adriana Urtazun, a resident of Punta Arenas for the past 12 years, was the sole non-Chilean winner, securing first place in the women’s 10k with a time of 43 minutes and 24 seconds. Rodrigo Silva of Puente Alto led the men’s 10k,finishing in 35 minutes and 6 seconds.
The 21k race saw dominant performances from Karen Torrealba and César Díaz,both seasoned Chilean runners who have represented their country internationally. Torrealba clocked in at one hour and 35 minutes, while Díaz completed the course in one hour and 20 minutes, setting new records for the event.
In the grueling 42k marathon,Luis Alessandrini finished with a time of 2 hours,43 minutes,and 19 seconds,and Ana Ibarra crossed the finish line at 3 hours,40 minutes,and 17 seconds,completing a sweep of the top spots for Chilean athletes.Patagonian International Marathon – General Winners:
