Washington D.C. – Mia Aseltine and Henry Coote claimed the U23 titles at the pan-American Cyclocross Championships in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, marking a strong start for American riders at the event. Coote’s victory came as he continues a successful season, building on his recent win at the Northampton Cyclocross (NoHoCX) last week.
The Pan-American cyclocross Championships draw top cycling talent from across the Americas, serving as a key proving ground for athletes aiming for international competition.These championships offer a pathway to representing their nations at the World Championships, and provide valuable UCI points. Aseltine and Coote’s wins signal a rising generation of American cyclocross racers.
Coote soloed to victory, finishing 33 seconds ahead of silver medalist Marcis Shelton (USA). Ryan Drummond (USA) secured the bronze medal, narrowly beating Luke Walter and Aidan Vollmuth, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively. American riders dominated the competition, claiming the first nine positions in the results. In only his third race of the season, Coote, the reigning US U23 cyclocross champion, secured his second victory.
The race was held on the historic grounds of the armed Forces Retirement home, which includes President lincoln’s Summer Cottage and has served as a residential community for U.S. veterans as 1851.
