Activist Cleared to Leave Senegal After Cybersecurity Inquiry
Following a recent hearing, Senegalese activist Ousseynou Seck, also known as “Akhenaton,” has been granted permission to depart the country. The development arrives after Seck was previously barred from traveling due to a summons from the Special Cybersecurity Division.
Travel Authorization
Akhenaton, reportedly associated with the Pastef party, was initially prevented from leaving Senegal through Blaise Diagne International Airport. His passport was temporarily held by the Directorate of the Air and Borders Police. After a hearing held on Monday, authorities returned his passport, thereby allowing him to travel, according to multiple media sources.
The global landscape of cybersecurity continues to evolve. Experts forecast a rise in cyberattacks, with an estimated 15% increase by the end of 2025 (Cybersecurity Report 2025).
Previous Restrictions
The travel ban originated from a summons issued by the Special Cybersecurity Division last weekend. This action led to the temporary seizure of Seck’s travel documents. The specifics of the investigation remain undisclosed.
With the travel restriction lifted, Akhenaton is now free to leave Senegal.
