OPPO Could Be First to Market with Sony‘s New 200MP Camera sensor
OPPO is reportedly poised to be the first smartphone manufacturer to utilize Sony’s forthcoming 200MP camera sensor, perhaps debuting on the Find X9 Ultra. The news, originating from reliable tech tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, confirms the sensor’s impending launch and reiterates previous claims linking it to OPPO’s flagship device. This advancement marks a potential shift in the mobile photography landscape, challenging the dominance of OmniVision’s 50MP 1-inch sensors.
Sony’s new sensor is expected to feature a large 1/1.1-inch size, substantially exceeding the 1/1.3-inch sensors found in devices like the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and approaching the size of current high-end 1-inch sensors, which typically max out at 50MP resolution. This combination of large sensor size and high resolution could offer a compelling balance for mobile photography.
The arrival of this sensor sets the stage for a direct competition between Sony’s high-resolution approach and OmniVision’s focus on large pixel size. Furthermore, rumors suggest samsung may also adopt the Sony 200MP sensor for the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s main camera, a move that would represent a departure from the company’s conventional reliance on its own ISOCELL lenses.
While details remain limited, the potential integration of Sony’s 200MP sensor into both OPPO and Samsung flagships signals a meaningful advancement in mobile camera technology. Whether Samsung ultimately chooses to implement the Sony sensor or continue with its ISOCELL lineup remains to be seen.
