Extension metro line 12 had been expected for years. This time, it’s done. This Tuesday at noon, two new stations, Aimé Césaire and Mairie d’Aubervilliers opened and were inaugurated with great fanfare. There was a crowd at the town hall of Aubervilliers this afternoon for this opening of the station eagerly awaited by the inhabitants.

The station “Aimé Césaire” named after the famous Martinican poet, is located at the corner of avenue Victor Hugo and boulevard Félix Faure, not far from the Saint-Denis canal.

The second, the station “Town hall of Aubervilliers“Serves downtown Aubervilliers and its market square.

The extension of line 12 was included in the 2007-2013 State-Region plan contract. the project was started more than 10 years ago with work that began in 2012.

Some numbers

Close to 40 thousand additional passengers are expected on line 12 of the metro, which already carries 250,000 passengers per day.

From now on, line 12 allows users to connect downtown Aubervilliers to Saint-Lazare in 20 minutes.

With these two new stations, line 12 measures 17 kilometers between the town hall of Issy-les-Moulineaux (Hauts-de-Seine) and the town hall of Aubervilliers (Seine-Saint-Denis). It serves 31 stations. It is connected to 9 metro lines, three tram lines and two RER lines.

Other line extensions

Few months ago, line 4 was extended to Bagneux (Hauts-de-Seine) with the opening of the stations “Barbara” et “Lucie Aubrac“. In 2023, line 11 should extend between Mairie-des-lilas and Rosny-sous-Bois (Seine-saint-Denis).
