OnePlus to End Hasselblad Camera partnership with OnePlus 15
OnePlus will discontinue its collaboration with Hasselblad on camera processing with the upcoming OnePlus 15, marking the end of a five-year partnership. The decision, announced by OnePlus founder Pete Lau in a post to the company’s forums late last night, signals a shift towards an in-house imaging system. The partnership began with the OnePlus 9 series in 2021.
Lau framed the move not as a dissolution, but as a “planned chapter complete,” suggesting the collaboration achieved its intended goals. OnePlus is developing a new imaging system, dubbed the “OnePlus DetailMax Engine,” focused on clarity and detail, driven by customer feedback and a greater emphasis on computational imaging. Lau also alluded to a desire to deliver “unmatched depth and realism,” referencing a past controversy involving Samsung’s image processing of the moon.
While the performance of the new system remains to be seen, OnePlus intends to maintain its signature contrast-y aesthetic. The OnePlus 15 is expected to be announced for china later this year, followed by a wider release around CES.
Notably, Oppo – OnePlus’s parent company – recently extended its partnership with Hasselblad, further differentiating the two brands.
