OnePlus 15 Reportedly Prioritizing Performance, Aiming for Lower Price
OnePlus is perhaps shifting strategies with its upcoming flagship, the OnePlus 15, reportedly focusing on core performance features to deliver a significantly more affordable price point. The move, frist reported by OnePlus Club on X/Twitter, appears to be inspired by the success of sister brand iQOO, notably within the Chinese market.
This “iQOO approach” centers on maximizing power and speed while streamlining costs in other areas. Leaks suggest the OnePlus 15 could feature a 165Hz OLED screen and be powered by either the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 or Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip. A considerable 7,000mAh battery with 120W wired charging is also rumored, alongside a durable build with an IP68 or IP69 rating.
To achieve a lower price, OnePlus is reportedly making adjustments to the camera system. Rumors indicate a potential reduction in telephoto lens capabilities-down to a 3x lens-and a possible downgrade of the main sensor. The company is also moving away from its partnership with Hasselblad, opting for an in-house image processing brand called “DetailMax” to avoid licensing fees.
This strategy signals a bet that a meaningful portion of OnePlus’s target audience prioritizes raw performance-including processing power, display smoothness, and battery life-over top-tier camera features. While the exact price of the OnePlus 15 remains unknown, the company intends to compete aggressively in the high-end smartphone market with a more accessible price tag. It remains to be seen if this approach will resonate with consumers outside of China.
