On September 28 between 7 and 8 p.m., a member of the Life Time Fitness club in Sugar Land had $10,000 in cash, a Rolex watch, and a wallet stolen from a locked gym locker while working out, fox26houston.com reported. Shuja Abbasi told the station he discovered the theft after exercising for about an hour and checking the pocket where he kept his cash and watch.
Cash, Rolex Stolen From Secure Locker
Abbasi placed his belongings inside a locker secured with a personal code after stopping at the gym following his workday. The $10,000 in cash was intended for a company deposit. Upon returning to the locker room, he found the valuables gone. “I went immediately for that pocket where I have my cash and my Rolex, and I didn’t feel it, and my heart dropped,” Abbasi told fox26houston.com. He believes someone used a master key to gain access because other members also found their lockers opened despite their personal codes remaining set. Shortly after the incident, Abbasi received a fraud alert indicating an attempted $400 purchase with his stolen credit card at a local grocery store. He reported the theft to the Sugar Land Police Department.

Abbasi Urges Life Time Fitness to Upgrade Security
After posting about his experience on TikTok, Abbasi heard from other current and former gym members who reported similar thefts or knew others who experienced them, fox26houston.com reported. He is now calling on Life Time Fitness to upgrade its security protocols. “I would like them to reach out and tell me, ‘Hey, we’re gonna work on our security. We’re gonna increase our security to protect our members and try to prevent this from happening,’” Abbasi said. In a statement provided to fox26houston.com, Life Time Fitness said the safety of members and team members is its top priority. The company noted that it takes reported thefts very seriously, expressed regret over the member’s experience, and confirmed it is collaborating with the ongoing police investigation while maintaining well-established security and surveillance procedures.
Sugar Land Police Issue Safety Guidance for Gymgoers
The Sugar Land Police Department continues to investigate the incident and has issued safety guidance for gymgoers. Police advise residents to leave high-value items, expensive jewelry, and large amounts of cash at home, bringing only essentials like water bottles, phones, and gym passes. For necessary items, authorities suggest using a waist pack, crossbody bag, running belt, or secure zippered pocket while exercising. Officers also encourage members to consult directly with Life Time Fitness regarding facility safety recommendations and security procedures.
