New Memory Card Disrupts Pro Video Workflow Costs
A new CFexpress Type A memory card from Novachips is challenging the premium pricing typically associated with high-performance storage for professional videographers. The novachips CFexpress Type A 400GB card boasts read speeds up to 800 MB/sec and write speeds up to 1700 MB/sec, and is currently available for approximately US $140 (around 2.2 million Indonesian Rupiah). This positions it as the most affordable CFexpress Type A card on the market meeting the VPG 400 standard.
The arrival of a competitively priced, high-speed CFexpress Type A card is significant for filmmakers and content creators relying on cameras like the Sony FX3, FX6, and a7S III, which utilize this format. Previously, options were limited and often expensive, especially for those needing the guaranteed minimum write speeds required for demanding 4K and 6K video recording. The Novachips card meets Compact Flash Association (CFA) standards with a VPG 400 rating, ensuring a sustained 400 MB/sec write speed – exceeding the 200 MB/sec VPG 200 standard found in some competing cards, including those from Sony.
The Novachips CFexpress Type A 400GB is designed to support high-resolution video capture, making it suitable for 4K and 6K workflows. Its performance ensures stable recording, crucial for professional applications. The card’s VPG 400 certification guarantees a minimum sustained write speed of 400 MB/sec, a key factor for avoiding dropped frames or recording interruptions during intensive video projects.
