Nothing, the consumer technology company founded by Carl Pei, has scheduled a launch event for its Phone (4a) series on March 5, 2026, directly countering Apple’s anticipated unveiling of the iPhone 17e the previous day. The announcement, made by Pei via his X profile, featured a digitally altered image of Apple’s event invitation overlaid with the “Nothing” branding and the launch date.
The move is widely interpreted as a deliberate attempt to overshadow Apple’s launch, which is expected to include new MacBooks, a base-model iPad, and a budget MacBook powered by Apple’s A18 chip, according to reports. Nothing’s event will be livestreamed from London at 5:30 AM ET via nothing.tech.
Prior to the official date confirmation, Nothing engaged in a series of unconventional promotional teasers. These included images of a condom and blue and pink pills, sparking considerable online discussion and speculation about the new device’s features or marketing direction. The company has not offered an explanation for these earlier posts.
Rumors surrounding the Phone (4a) series suggest updates to the camera system, increased memory capacity, and a revised “glyph” interface – Nothing’s signature design element featuring light patterns on the phone’s rear panel. Leaks also point to the potential inclusion of Snapdragon 7s SoCs and up to 12GB of RAM in the Phone 4a and 4a Pro models.
Apple’s March 4 event is slated to take place in New York City, Shanghai, and London, with the iPhone 17e expected to be the centerpiece of the presentation. Nothing’s decision to announce its launch just one day later underscores a competitive strategy aimed at capturing attention in a crowded smartphone market.
