(ANSA) – ISTANBUL, 18 OCT – The nationalist Ersin Tatar, strongly supported by the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is the new ‘president’ of the Turkish separatist republic of Northern Cyprus, recognized only by Ankara. In today’s ballot, Tatar got 51.7% of the votes, defeating the outgoing Mustafa Akinci, moderate and pro-reunification, for some time on the ropes with Erdogan, who stopped at 48.3%.
