The authorities of the DPRK allowed the party and government delegation of China to visit the country to participate in the celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the truce in the Korean War. This was reported on July 24 by Yonhap.
In North Korea, large-scale celebrations are planned for the 70th anniversary of the signing of the ceasefire agreement, including a military parade.
A Chinese delegation led by Li Hongzhong, a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, will visit the country to participate in the celebrations. The visit will take place at the invitation of the Central Committee of the ruling Workers’ Party of the DPRK and the government.
This is the first known instance of North Korea inviting foreign visitors when the country closed its border in 2020 to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Korean Armistice Agreement was signed on July 27, 1953. The document was signed by Lieutenant General of the US Army William Harrison, representing the UN command, and North Korean General Nam Il, representing the Korean People’s Army and the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army.
