North Dakota’s DAR chapter looking forward in more ways than one – InForum

DAR Marker Rededication in Valley City⁤ Signals Renewed Focus on North⁣ Dakota⁣ History, Community‍ Engagement

Valley ⁤City, ⁣North Dakota ‌- October 26, 2023 – The ​North Dakota ‌State Society ⁢Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) recently completed‍ a project too restore a historic marker honoring‍ Augusta ⁤Freeman Young, a pivotal figure in ​the association’s state founding, and ⁤the event underscores a broader commitment to preserving local history and expanding community outreach. The⁢ rededication,held in Valley City,comes as the DAR seeks to attract new members and amplify its work‍ in genealogy,education,and ‌patriotic ‌endeavors across‌ the state.

The ‌original marker, dedicated in 1929, had been damaged-reportedly by a lawnmower-and was ‍in need of replacement.​ The ⁣restoration effort, spearheaded⁤ by DAR members, not only preserves the ⁣memory of Young, who organized the first DAR ⁤chapter in North Dakota, but also symbolizes the organization’s ⁣enduring presence and ​forward ⁣momentum. ​”she really could get it started,” stated DAR member Sidler, emphasizing⁣ Young’s instrumental role in ⁢establishing a thriving DAR presence in North Dakota.

Augusta Freeman Young founded the DAR chapter in Valley City‌ on November 11, ​1905, and served as its first regent. Her dedication laid⁢ the groundwork for the organization’s expansion throughout the ⁤state, now encompassing numerous chapters and thousands ‍of members. The‍ DAR’s mission centers on⁣ historic preservation, patriotism, and education, with initiatives ranging from ​supporting veterans to providing scholarships and promoting responsible citizenship.

The rededication ‍ceremony served as a⁤ reminder of the importance of safeguarding historical landmarks and recognizing the contributions of pioneering women like ‍Young.
