NOPD Arrests Suspect in Alphonse Hogan Jr. Homicide Investigation

August 21, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

On August 20, 2026, the New Orleans Police Department arrested Frederick Johnson in Gonzales, Louisiana, on a second-degree murder charge in connection with the death of Alphonse Hogan Jr., whose missing persons case was reclassified as a homicide following a multi-agency investigation involving the FBI and Louisiana State Police.

The Missing Persons Investigation Shifts to Homicide

The case began on August 3, 2026, when officers with the NOPD First District took a report regarding a missing adult male. The victim, identified as Alphonse Hogan Jr., a Black male born September 13, 1957, was last seen at his home located in the 2000 block of Lapeyrouse Street, according to official reports from NOPD News.

As First District detectives dug into the disappearance, information surfaced that pointed toward foul play. The investigation was swiftly escalated. NOPD Homicide Section detectives assumed control of the case, partnering directly with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Investigators executed multiple search warrants and processed a significant amount of physical evidence. Working in consultation with the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office and the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office, detectives determined that Hogan had been killed. They formally reclassified the missing person case as a homicide investigation.

Multi-Agency Pursuit and Arrest in Ascension Parish

Following the reclassification of the case, homicide detectives developed Frederick Johnson, born June 22, 1984, as a suspect. Investigators secured an arrest warrant charging Johnson with one count of second-degree murder.

The pursuit crossed municipal boundaries on August 20, 2026. Law enforcement located Johnson in Gonzales, Louisiana. Local authorities took him into custody with coordinated assistance from the Louisiana State Police, the FBI, and the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office. The NOPD explicitly thanked these outside agencies for their operational support during the apprehension.

Johnson is currently being held while awaiting extradition back to Orleans Parish to face the second-degree murder charge. Under the law, all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Ongoing Recovery Efforts and Public Appeal

Despite the arrest of a suspect, the investigation remains active and fluid. Authorities confirmed that Alphonse Hogan Jr.’s remains have not yet been located.

The NOPD Homicide Section continues to comb through evidence and appeal to the public for assistance. Investigators urge anyone possessing relevant information regarding the case to contact the NOPD Homicide Section directly at 504-658-5300.
