Rory Kennedy Demands Criminal Charges for Boeing CEOs in New Documentary

August 21, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Documentary filmmaker Rory Kennedy is calling for Boeing chief executives to face criminal charges, asserting that systemic corporate greed and severe safety compromises led directly to preventable tragedies, according to interviews published by USA TODAY and reporting from Reuters.

The Human Cost of Manufacturing Pressures

Rory Kennedy spent years investigating the aerospace manufacturer, an effort that culminated in a pair of streaming documentaries. Her latest project, “Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing,” streams on Netflix and follows her 2022 film “Downfall: The Case Against Boeing,” which investigated the 737 MAX 8 crashes in 2018 and 2019 that claimed 346 lives.

Boeing admitted fault in those disasters, attributing the cause of the crashes to a faulty Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System, known as MCAS. Yet Kennedy’s latest investigative work details a broader corporate culture that allegedly ignored employee safety warnings, retaliated against whistleblowers, and allowed corroded parts onto production lines.

Corporate Accountability and Regulatory Oversight

The new documentary highlights the death of Boeing whistleblower John Barnett, examining the intense pressures faced by individuals who raised internal flags regarding quality control and manufacturing shortcuts.

In response to the claims made in Kennedy’s documentary, a Boeing spokesperson issued a statement to USA TODAY defending the company’s trajectory. “The allegations in this film have been widely reported over the past several years.”

The company representative added that customers, industry experts, policymakers, and employees are currently observing tangible improvements in manufacturing delivery and collaborative oversight. Boeing maintains that its teams are working daily to fulfill safety commitments and rebuild public trust.

The Ongoing Push for Legal Consequences

Despite corporate assurances of reform under stricter federal supervision, Kennedy argues that temporary regulatory oversight is insufficient to alter corporate behavior permanently. She points to a recurring pattern where scrutiny temporarily curbs production shortcuts, only for corporate priorities to drift back toward output and profitability once federal attention wanes.
