Donald Trump and Michael Cohen Reunite on Radio Show After Years of Feuds

August 21, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

The president and his former fixer reunited on Cohen’s radio show, putting their contentious past behind them after years of legal feuds and name calling.

From Blind Loyalty to Federal Prison and Public Feuds

The path to this unexpected reconciliation spans years of intense legal and political drama. Back on December 12, 2018, according to CNBC, Michael Cohen was sentenced in federal court in Manhattan to three years in prison after pleading guilty to a range of financial crimes and lying to Congress.

During that 2018 sentencing hearing before U.S. District Judge William Pauley, an emotional Cohen took full responsibility for his actions, stating that a “blind loyalty” to Donald Trump had led him to choose “a path of darkness over light” and cover up what he described as the president’s “dirty deeds.” Judge Pauley characterized Cohen’s criminal conduct as a “veritable smorgasbord of fraudulent conduct,” while Cohen lamented his association with the real estate developer and reality TV star, claiming he had served in “personal and mental incarceration.”

Following his release from federal custody and home confinement, Cohen remained a vocal critic of the former president, enduring years of public insults in which Trump frequently dismissed him on social media as a “rat” and a “liar.”

The Hush Money Trial and the Turning Point in New York

The tension peaked during the Manhattan criminal trial where prosecutors relied heavily on Cohen’s testimony. According to CNN, Cohen served as a witness for the prosecution, detailing a 2016 arrangement involving a $130,000 hush money payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to prevent stories of an alleged affair from reaching voters ahead of the presidential election.

Throughout weeks of court proceedings, witnesses called by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office painted an unflattering picture of Cohen. Former National Enquirer parent company American Media Inc. head David Pecker described Cohen as “prone to exaggeration,” while former Trump aide Hope Hicks noted that Cohen liked to call himself a “fixer”—a moniker she argued was only possible because “he first broke it.” Despite these characterizations, prosecutors utilized Cohen to walk jurors through the paper trail of invoices, checks, and general ledger entries that underpinned the 34 criminal charges of falsifying business records.

A Surprising Radio Reunion and Long-Term Implications

Despite years of mutual animosity, courtroom showdowns, and prison sentences stemming from the fallout of the 2016 campaign, the dynamic between the two figures shifted with their appearance together on Cohen’s radio show. The conversation marked a symbolic turning point away from the bitter legal feuds that defined their relationship.
