NM State Softball Falls to North Dakota, Hosts LA Tech Next

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – New Mexico State’s softball team concluded its participation in the Birds Up Bash tournament on Sunday with a 5-2 loss to North Dakota. The Aggies briefly took the lead in the first inning, but North Dakota responded with a series of runs to secure the victory.

NM State started strong, capitalizing on early offensive opportunities. Faith Aragon singled, followed by a double from Kendal Lunar. Lauren Garcia then drove in the first run of the game, and Skye Johnson added another with an RBI groundout, giving the Aggies a 2-0 advantage.

However, North Dakota quickly countered. The team scored three runs in the third inning and added two more in the fourth, shifting the momentum and establishing a lead that NM State was unable to overcome.

Despite the loss, the Aggies continued to demonstrate offensive efforts throughout the game. Lauren Garcia recorded another double, and Destan Burks contributed a seventh-inning double. Jaileen Mancha and Zantelle Rodriguez shared pitching duties, completing all six innings in the circle for NM State.

The Aggies will now return to New Mexico to prepare for the start of Conference USA play. Their first league game is scheduled for Friday, March 6, at 6:00 PM against LA Tech at the NM State Softball Complex. The game will also be broadcast on 91.5 FM KRUX.
