Nintendo President Doug Bowser Retires – New Leadership Announced

Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser⁣ to Retire in 2026

REDMOND, WA – November 21, 2024 – ⁤Doug Bowser, ⁣President of ⁤Nintendo of America, announced today he will retire on⁣ December 31, 2025, concluding a six-year tenure overseeing the company’s operations in the Americas. He ‍succeeded Reggie Fils-Aimé in 2019. ⁢During his leadership,⁣ Nintendo launched the‍ Nintendo Switch 2 and expanded ⁤it’s brand into new ventures including Super Nintendo World theme parks and film adaptations, ⁢such as the upcoming Super‌ Mario Galaxy movie.

“One of my‌ first video game⁤ experiences was ‍to play the Arcade version of Donkey Kong. Since then, everything related to ​Nintendo has continued to be a passion for me‍ and my family. Directing Nintendo of America was the honor of my life, and I am proud of what our team has accomplished, both in terms of commercial results and experiences created ⁢for consumers,” Bowser stated in an official press release.

Devon Pritchard, currently Executive Vice-President responsible for revenue, marketing,‍ and⁤ consumer experience, will assume the role of President of ​Nintendo of America on January 1, 2026. Pritchard has been with Nintendo⁢ since 2006.

In a parallel announcement, Nintendo appointed Satoru Shibata as CEO of Nintendo of america, while he will continue serving as Executive Officer and ‍a ⁣member of the Board of ‌Directors of Nintendo co., Ltd. Shibata previously led Nintendo of Europe from 2000 to 2018.

Bowser’s departure marks a significant transition‌ for Nintendo of ‌America, following a period of stability and expansion into new media. ⁢his successor will be tasked with navigating a rapidly⁤ evolving industry while building upon ‌the company’s recent‍ successes. Nintendo ​confirmed the iconic villain Bowser remains the King of the Koopas,a​ role he has held since‌ his debut in 1985.
