Nine Suspects Arrested in Connection with Illegal Arms deals
HUNZENSCHWIL, SWITZERLAND – Nine individuals have been arrested following a series of investigations into illicit arms transactions, Swiss authorities announced today. The arrests, made across multiple cantons, represent a meaningful disruption to an alleged network involved in the illegal procurement and distribution of firearms.
The operation, launched several weeks ago following reports of suspicious activity targeting car dealerships in Hunzenschwil, initially focused on a string of burglaries and the theft of a luxury vehicle. However, the examination quickly expanded to uncover evidence of broader criminal activity, including the clandestine trading of weapons. Authorities believe the stolen vehicle was connected to the arms deals, potentially used for transportation or as collateral.
Police executed search warrants at multiple properties, seizing a quantity of firearms, ammunition, and related materials. The suspects, whose identities have not yet been released, are currently being held for questioning. Investigators are working to determine the full extent of the network’s operations, including identifying potential buyers and tracing the origin of the weapons.
The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities anticipating further developments in the coming days. This case highlights the ongoing challenges in combating the illegal arms trade and underscores the importance of cross-border cooperation to disrupt criminal networks.
